Filmmaking Workshop for Youth
Island Arts and the Anderson Island Film Festival sponsored our first-ever Filmmaking Workshop for Youth on July 8, 8 and 10, made possible by a grant from the Pierce County Arts Commission. We also received equipment loans from The Olympia Film Collective and Punch Drunk Productions, LLC. Held at the historic Johnson Farm on Anderson Island, this 3-day introductory course was run by Vanessa Williams who has deep roots here. The students were given the basics of filmmaking and then were sent out to shoot their own short film with the theme of “My Journey to Anderson Island”. There were 11 students who took part in the workshop, some from the Island, others from Steilacoom High School, one visiting from California and one all the way from Turkey. The films were shown at a get-together of the students, family and friends on Friday, July 12, at the Johnson Farm Archival Building. Look for the films at a special showing at the upcoming 2nd Annual Anderson Island Film Festival, September 13-15.
